Mavis, one of the rescued hens, used to be very timid but is now developing a very bold personality. Previously she would hang back behind the others but now she's one of the first to try and mug us for grapes!
On Saturday she decided that if the grapes weren't coming to her then she would go to the grapes. The gate at the kitchen door had been put up to stop our previous two hens from sauntering into the house at will. They had been found wandering down the hall and checking out the dining-room and I'm sure would have been quite happy to sit on the couch and watch TV with us.
The gate may have worked for all other hens (not to mention dogs) but Mavis is obviously made of sterner stuff.
Mavis tries out Jana's unwanted (chicken flavour!!) breakfast.

New to your blog...so glad I stopped by!! Your dogs are gorgeous! It's nice to "meet" you all! :)
that's hilarious! what a clever hen.
i am a little concerned that she'd be willing to try chicken flavored dog food, though...
That Mavis is quite the hen!! I LOVE Jana's slow moves and watchfulness as Mavis is checking her *gasp* chicken flavored food. :)
Woooo, why don't you eat her up?
We would at Dog WOods!

Oh that's funny! Ha, can you imagine my lot if there was a hen in the kitchen? I'd be peeling Beagles off the ceiling! Great pointing there Jana....and such self-control :o) And hilarious....if a little disturbing...that Mavis sampled the chicken flavour food!
