Skywatch on an anniversary

It's hard to believe that I started this blog a year ago today - it's gone so fast! Blogging has taken me all around the world and introduced me to people and places that I would never have encountered otherwise. Many of you I have come to think of as friends and I love seeing what life is like in your part of the world. Long may it continue.

I hadn't planned to participate in Skywatch Friday this week because I didn't have a suitable photo. However, that all changed earlier today when the perfect subject just fell out of the sky in front of me!

Our little village was agog with excitement when an air ambulance circled very low overhead and then set down in the doctor's surgery car park. Seeing as the car park is really rather small, we were all amazed at the skill of the pilot in getting the helicopter in there safely.

There had been a minor accident involving a car and a wall but, thankfully, the driver was not as badly injured as was first thought and she didn't actually need to be whisked away. I grabbed my camera from home in order to get some shots of the helicopter taking off. I was only able to get a few before the down draught forced me to turn away and shield my camera. It may only have been a small helicopter but it certainly whipped up the dust!

Up, up and away

See more skies from all around the world here

Happy anniversary! And what a nice surprise that a helicopter landed so you could take photos of it for Sky Watch. And bonus: the helicopter wasn't really needed. Serendipity!!

Great color for a helicopter. How fun that you were able to be there to take pics. Glad the driver wasn't seriously injured...

Having trouble trying to leave a comment... May have posted this already:

You are the first hit on Google when I search for you (or for The Blog at least).

Happy blog anniversay! I just reently started to blog. I found your photos interesting, and hard to believe that the pilot was able to land in that small space. I'm glad that everyone is OK too.
Thanks for coming back and sharing.

Happy blogaversery, and thanks for the nifty pix. Thanks, too, for visiting the Farm on your way around Skywatch Friday. I love hearing from Scotsfolk, being of similar extraction, and look forward to perusing your year-old effort--especially given the canine focus. We're bulldog people turned mutt-lovers (one Border Collie/Corgie, the other Border Collie plus Shep the Wonder Dog), but enjoy seeing other people's dogs (or other dogs' people).

Happy Anniversary! So agree with what you said about blogging...

What a pretty helicopter! They are usually just dull shades of grey or army green or black at best...this one is almost like a toy! The yellow looks so striking against the sky.

Nothing like a golden helicopter to light up the sky! An Ambulance at that, how exciting.

What a skilled pilot. That sure doesn't look like much of a landing pad!

The Beatles should have made a song about this yellow helicopter instead of submarine.

How exciting! It's fortunate that the accident victim wasn't badly hurt and didn't need the helicopter after all. Those pilots are so skilled aren't they?
Congratulations on your first anniversary and here's to many more :-)

Happy 1st anniversary!
Who would have thought a helicopter could land in that space. No wonder you grabbed your camera.

If anyone wants to learn more about the aircraft or the air ambulance service, take a look at:http://www.scottishambulanceservice.co.uk/air_ambulance.htm I was most impressed that the pilot landed in such a restricted area, they did not even move all of the cars out of the tiny car park!!
